Oprah's Speech

Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globes Awards Ceremony on Sunday, January 8, 2018.

Winfrey’s inclusiveness of both men and women in the fight against sexual harassment on all levels was strong and inspiring, according to lots of people. In my opinion, Oprah presented a message of hope, unity, and optimism in her speech, but… what do you think? Please watch the video and leave a comment.

  1. Hello! I´m Francisco José Álvarez Álvarez from 1st BACH B.

From my point of view, Oprah gave us a really aware message to break with the ideals until this moment. She feels proud and inspired by all women, who suffered sexual harassment, and were strong enoungh to speak as they had to feed their children, bills to pay and above all, dreams to pursue.
She gave us a message of hope and to all those men that did it... "Their time is up" I recommend you to see this video!

    That´s all. Thanks!

  2. Hello! I'm Virginia fron 4CSE B and this video shows a woman, Oprah Winfrey who became the first black woman to be awarded in a Golden Globe for lifetime. Winfrey used her speech to praise women who have shared their stories of sexual abuse and to declare "A new day is on the horizon" for girls and women.I totally agree with the sentence "Their time is up" which refers to women who haven't been heard or believed if the dare speak the truth to the power of some men. From my point of view , she is so inspirational since she gives women and girls hope and proof that persistance works. She also conveys the message that if you have a dream ,it can be accomplished.
    Bye!

  3. Hi, I am Lucía Beato Domínguez from 1BTO B. I totally agree with Ophra. Nowadays we still live in a close-minded society, every sigle day thousands of women suffer from machism. But, as Ophra said, a new day is on the horizon, and this is because of all women that have fought for us and all women that are still fighting. I really hope that one day we could all be in the same step, and I know it is quite difficult, but with people like Ophra (we are also able to see in the video somo other women like Gwendoline Christie or Chrissy Metz), or any other women in the world... we will make it. If we all stay together...

  4. I´m José Ignacio from 1BTO B. In this video, Oprah Winfrey energetically expresses her appreciation to girls and women who have raised their voices against sexual abuse and injustice in the workplace.
I consider it a true example of his courage, as well as hope in the capacity of human beings "to preserve hope for a brighter tomorrow even in the darkest nights".
She trusts that many magnificent men and women will continue to fight for that moment in which no one has to say "me too" again. "The time is up", she says flatly, and telling the truth is the most powerful weapon we all have, far from the broken culture created by powerful brutal men.

  7. Hello, I´m Lorena from 1ºBTO B. I have just seen this video and I can´t find the words to tell how much it has moved me. Everything she has said is a reallity that women have to deal with since we are young. I hope that this time is up, I hope that we start to believe women when they tell us their experiences. I'd like this abuses to finish because no one deserves that life.

  8. I think that these words spoken by Oprah Winfrey should be heard by all women and young people because we are the future of this society, with her words she has paid homage to all those women who have risen up to face the men who have harassed them and as they have known how to fight and move forward, it is also pleasant the treatment that it gives to men and the call it makes to those who fight supporting women to achieve that gender equality we are seeking and trying to impose on society , with hope and without surrendering.

  9. Hi! I'm Carmen from 1º BACH C. Seen this video has made me think about the silence of sexual abuse victims in every range of life. Oprah Winfrey, who is a very famous journalist and actress and the first black woman who received the Golden Globe for lifetime, talks especially about this type of abuse in film bussines because of the lasts shames in this field. She condemn these acts and she says that woman don't have to keep in silence if she goes through these abuses. In the video is also mentioned the new movement created for raise money for victims of sexual abuse, Time's up, which refers to every woman who haven't spoken because they had the fear they wouldn't be believed. Personally, I think that she is such a role model because she gives hope for a hard moment that they have been through.

  11. Hi I’m Rocio Acosta from 1 BACH B.
What this video made me think about is all women who have worked and tried and tried again to finally end with this close-minded society where we still live . We aren’t aware enough of how many women have fought to get the same rights and the same opportunities than men . Do we really need to continue this unfair war?
I don’t know what nowadays girls will be like if , maybe, some revolutionary , dreamers and young girls years ago hadn’t the courage to make the world see women are amazingly strong and intelligent ( like the way those women did)telling their own stories ,which many of them have been destroyed by men who didn’t accept them just the way they were , brave , beautiful , clever , hard worker , so thanks lord for all those girls who make the world of tomorrow seems better than today and tomorrow world .

  13. Hello, I am Claudia Gómez Márquez, from 1 BTO C. i think Oprah's speech contains a lot of hope for younger women, because she is reporting sexual harrassment and she, with her speech, might have helped a lot of girls to realise what they are worth and that there are some thing you just can't tolerate. I find it very inspiring and optimistic the message she leaves for society: TIME'S UP. The time for extremely powerful men is up and now it is time for equal rights. I loved the video.

I believe that Oprah give us a very clear message in her speech. During all the life woman have fought for their rights. I think that there have been a lot of strong women that have fought day by day in a world of men like Frida Kahlo or Marie Curie...For me, they are heroines.

In conclusion, all the women have to follow reclaiming our rights and fight for a better world for us.
