HISPANIC, SPANISH OR LATINO?

As you know, our Antonio Banderas ia a nominee for the 2020  Actor in a Leading Role for Dolor y Gloria (Pain and Glory in English). Part of the American press consider that Antonio Banderas is not white because he is Hispanic, so they said he is black. As you can imagine. social media are "on fire". the truth is that Hispanic, Latino and Spanish have nothing to do with race.  Here is a video to try to explain the difference. Sadly, the background is full of racial prejudice on  White Anglo Saxon People. Take a look and leave your comments.

  2. Hello this is Jesús Rodríguez Iglesias.

The video is about the confusion that exists with Spaniards, Latinos and Hispanics.
I agree with what these women say because they differentiate them very well, but without saying that they are other races, nothing is further from reality.
They express that Hispanics are those who speak Spanish and that Latinos are distinguished by their geographical location. I think it is an enriching video, very fair and very well documented.
I have a question, why does the human being always seek a differentiation between them, if we all have the same anatomy?

  4. Hi! This is Paula Cabrera from 1º BTO A.
Before watching this video I did not have so much information about the difference that exists in our society between race and ethnicity, much less that a subject like these awards with a Spanish artist was to be so controversial. It is quite unfair for him to be discriminated against for being black, since Antonio is Spanish, and besides that, regardless of that, it is very sad and cruel that in such important prizes as these, someone is discriminated against because of their race. It is something that we must change and do everything possible because there are less and less inequalities as well.

  9. This is from 1ºBTO-A, i'm José Miguel Bañez. The difference between Latino, Hispanic or Spanish term it's really very simple.
A person is called Spanish if he comes or he born in Spain.
In the same way a person is called Hispanic if he belongs to one of the countries that was colonized by Spain in Spanish colonial times.
Finally, the Latino term is used to refer to countries that were colonized by countries with languages derived from Latin.
The problem is that the Americans don't see that the color doesn't interfere because, due to colonialism, races were mixed and you can't differentiate them in colors since there may be people from the same country but of different color. This is as it says in the video because 77% are white.
I hope this is arranged for a better coexistence between people.

  10. Hello, this is Cristina Albarrán from 1ºBTO A. I really like the video, because It has clearly explained the different between Hispanic and Latino-one thing that I appreciate is the name "latinx" for gender included. This video is pretty informative because they explain the origin of both word, and also, there is a critique of goverment, because they are the main cause of racism and xenophobia- they think the society is divided only in black or White, but that isn't truth, people depend on their culture, education and other factors feel that they are part of an ethnic group, and this isn't the same as the race, because that Word make the feel of a massive globalization and classification. Last thing that I want to tell is thanks to the new ideology that is being formed, we are fixing all these problems in order to create a world where we are all. accepted

  11. Hello, I,m Gema form 1btoC
before this I already knew the difference between Hispanic and Latino (or I think so). Latino is usually called the people of Latin America, while Hispanic makes more reference to the language and those who were born in a Spanish-speaking place. And obviously Spanish would be that person born in Spain. I think it is unprofessional not to inform yourself before making an article.

  12. Hi, I'm Andrea Pérez from 1st BTO A.
I think it's a really interesting video, and before seeing it, I can't know much about the difference between the Latin, Hispanic and Spanish term that exists in our society. Now that I can understand it, I think the real problem is that our society does not see that color and race are not the important quality of each person. We must change it and accept all people regardless of how they are.

  13. Hi everyone! This is Antonio Alcocer form 1º bchto C.
I can't understand how people can be so incompetent or unprofessional. Of course I knew the difference between Latino and Spanish before I had seen the video and I must say that the video is prety good to find the difference between Hispanic and Latino, and this difference is more complicated and I can allow the mistake in american common people whose life revolve around races differences (a problem that the video shows very well) but I can't understand how professional journalists have been able to make the mistake of think about Antonio Banderas like a black actor. It shows that in the United States people continue having a great problem with races that they should have resolved it a long time ago. It's a pity that in the greatest country of the world in aspects like cinema, television or economy they prefeer to underestimate the things and the way of life of the rest in stead of share their good things and finished with the bad ones. I will add one more sentence to the "american dream": This is America, the place where you can't see beyond your navel.

the video was amazing,it´s was really good, it's interesting and good to know, I personally didn't know how to tell the difference between those three classes but I knew one thing, which had nothing to do with race.
I especially believe that we should all respect ourselves as we are, not for being of a race or for being Hispanic, American or Latino

  15. Hi! This is María Báñez from 1ºBTO A.
In my opinion it is a video that clarifies an issue that has created a great controversy throughout the development of our society. Ethnicity and race are two different concepts that we should not confuse today. It is quite unfair that in a prize of such importance a Spanish artist has been discriminated against for being supposedly black. Antonio Banderas is, in fact, from an Andalusian family. In our society we should consider these issues and empathize with the people who are affected day by day.

  16. Hi, I'm Paula Martínez from 1st BTO A. In my opinion, this video explains perfectly the difference between 'Latinx' (person from Latin America), Hispanic (Spanish-speaking person) and Spanish (which is obviously a person from Spain). However, for me this categories just make more discrimination problems such as racism.

  17. Hi,I'm Francisco Cortegana from 1st BTO A.
In my opinion it seemed to me a very good video, that there is more interesting than knowing exactly who you are and where you are from. I think I have understood what the difference between Latino and Hispanic is. I think that where we should focus would be on not distinguishing people either by color, or by country of origin or by their speech.

  19. Hi, I'm Laura Palomo Macías from 2ºBTO "A", I found this video very interesting because it explains quite well the difference between Hispanic and Latino. One thing that has caught my attention is the term "latinx" because that word has not been used for some time. It shows that in the United States people still have a big problem with the races that should have solved it a long time ago. It is true, people depend on their culture, education and other factors that they feel are part of an ethnic group, and this is not the same as race, because that Word gives the feeling of massive globalization and classification. To conclude I want to say that, thanks to the new ideology that is being formed, we are solving all these problems so that we are all accepted as we are and do not have to be classified by any term.

  20. Hi! I'm Esther Rocío from 4º A. I think all of us are people and the race is something superficial. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, hispanic or latino, the most important thing is help others when it is necessary and be kind with all around us.

  21. Hi! I’m Lucía Basulto González from 1º BTO B.
I was really surprised when I read about what press have said to Antonio Banderas .
As I see it , it’s unfair that an important actor as him has to be discriminated for the color of the skin (which in my view doesn’t care) and we ought to be worried because it shouldn’t be accepted this type of behave at nowadays society. Although the video was entertaining as I learnt about the difference between Hispanics , people who speak Spanish and have Spanish origin and Latinx or Latino ,people who don’t speak Spanish as a first language ( Latinx isn’t refer to Americ’s colonaizer like spanishs ) I belive that this video don’t promote the equality in the word because we should be focus on the thing we have in commun , instead of the thing in which we are different.
All in all, I belive people might understand that be different isn´t bad and we should be proud of a world where live many different cultures and races.

  24. Hi, I'm Silvia Martínez Hartmann from 2°Bto.A. I find this video really interesting since I wasn't sure about the difference between the terms latino, hispanic and spanish. I believe videos like this one are very useful to spread awareness about the racist connotation of these words and to teach us where they come from. I think it's important we learn more about it to stop racism in western countries like ours or the United States, we should all unite forces and leave behind our differences to become stronger. Our cultures, history and languages are beautiful so we could all benefit from getting in touch with each other, it would make a big step towards progress and social development.
