INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Hi everyone,

This is Emma Watson's speech at UN  campaigning for gender equality, 20 September 2014. They were launching the campaign HeforShe.

Do you think that women:

  •  should be paid the same as men for the same work?
  •  should be able to make deccisions about their own bodies?
  •  should be involved in the decision making of their own countries?
  •  should be given the same social respect as men?
Whether boy or girl, if your answer is yes, then you are a feminist, and you may not know it.

  1. Hello I'm Juan Francisco from 1ªBach C. First I would like to say that I am one of those men who took off the blanket and it was not easy, I thought a lot about the opinion of others, but I got it. Everyone, both women and men should understand that stereotypes have to disappear and each person be free to choose his or her life.
Complete equality does not exist in Spain or in any other country in the world. Although we are equal before the law, there are still social differences such as the wage gap, the increase in the price of contraceptives and menstrual products for women, if abortion is the women the most psychologically harassed.
In short, much remains to be done and it is up to everyone, not just some.

  2. Hi, I´m Natalia Viejo from 1º BACH B. I agree with Emma, male chauvinism is a problem that concerns men and women. If men don´t contribute to get the gender equality, we never achieve it. As Emma said, it´s impossible get equality if the half of population don´t participe. Also, men are oppressed by machismo, they can´t show their feelings and emotions without the feeling of inferiority. Men don´t have the same problems due to male chauvinism that women, but they suffer too. Society needs that people work together to achieve gender equality.

  4. Hello, my name is Oliver and I am from 1st Bach C, Emma watson is a great actress and a great person, I liked her speech and regarding the questions my answer to everything is yes. But I think women are crazy if they pretend to be equal to men because they are quite superior and always have been. Anything you give a woman will do better. If you give her sperm, she will give you a child. If you give her a house, she will give you a home. If she gives you aliments, she will give you food. If you give her a smile, she will give you her heart. They magnify and multiply whatever you give them.
    HAPPY WOMAN´S DAY!!!

Because it all starts with a lack of infomation and end in a bad situation. I like the way she expresses feminism without the need to crush or step on men, just the oppsite, she has brought them together in this fight. My applause goes to you Enma and to all those womans who are fighting to achive our rights.

  7. Hello, I'm Esther Rocío Valladolid from 1ºBach. B. I consider that Emma Watson is an icon for the new generations because of her fresh and simplicity. With this speech she brings to the new generations an important mensage: woman need to be free and man can help them to obtain their freedom. I am so proud of those women who fight everyday against the sexist injustices and slights. For those fighters: You are not alone!

  8. It's Ángela Saavedra from 1ºBach C group 2. As a woman I have to say that living in this world is not easy, so before I give my opinion about that I would like to say to all this people that thinks that this movement it's not necessary that try to live in a woman's world. Cause if you never been told how you gotta be, what you gotta wear, what you gotta speak or if you never shouted to be heard let me tell that you ain't live in a woman's world. We live in a society that only want the body and not the brains, it isn't sad that we have to work much harder that every single man besause is our only way to survive?. So now that we had the courage to start talking, don't think that will ever stop, cause now it's finally our time. So to the all the girls are hurting let me tell you that there will be a day when everyone's treated the same, and we won't give up, not now.
It's the only way it's got to be.
    Happy women's day

  9. Hi, I'm Marina Fernández from 1ºBach C. I totally agree with the spech that Emma Watson gaves. First of all i would like to say that as a woman it kills me when someone says that feminnism is not necessary now a days, because of course it is, and when people says that it just tries to make the man the responsable of everything when what feminism really tries to do is achive the equality between women and men. As Emma said in her speach men are oppressed by the society, for instance they can show their feelings because that makes them less man. So to sum up this battle isn’t finish yet we have to carry on fighting for our rights

  10. Hi, my name is 'Verónica' Alarcón Espinoza from 1 Bach B group 1.
From my point of view, I absolutely agree with her speech. Feminism is for everybody. To be ‘feminist’ in any sense of the term is to want for all people,no matter their gender, liberation from sexist role patterns, domination, and oppression.
I reckon that feminism's defence of equality and freedom benefit all genders.

  11. Hi, I'm Juan Hernández, from 1º.Bach. B. I agree with Emma Watson's speech, like her I also think that women should earn the same money as men if they work in the same job, that they should have the same rights as men and that they should be given the same same social respect.
And as she says, both men and women should feel free to be sensitive.

  13. Hi, I'm Luis Díaz Díaz from first year B of baccalaureate, first group and I agree with this speech in all the points it makes. I think women should be paid the same as men, I think women should make their own decisions with their bodies and I think women should have the same social respect as men, but what I liked the most is that he didn't take the speech in an aggressive way towards men by venting his anger towards them as the axis of evil as many of these speeches do, but he included it in the debate as an important point, you don't see that every day.
All this, and the fact that Emma Watson was the speaker, made her speech seem incredible to me.

  14. Hi, I'm Mariam from 1batch B I agree with the speech that Emma said. I think that feminism is neither good nor bad, because women can't have all the power over men but neither men can have all the power over women, that is, we have to share power, feel all the same, without abusing people of the other gender, so feminism is neither good, not bad. I believe that feminism is not necessary if men and women declare peace among themselves
